The award-winning Comic Book Club comes year-round to the Art League of Long Island! In this sequential art class, teens explore various comic styles, such as the witty pages of The Simpsons creator, Matt Groening's, Life in Hell series, the stylish manga of Dragon Ball Z and Pokemón, Marvel and DC superhero staples like Wonder Woman and Spiderman, and sci-fi giants like Star Wars. Critically acclaimed artist and creator of Comic Book Club, Anu Annam, guides students through research, discussion, and sketchbook drawing exercise to help students discover their own comic voice. They receive rigorous visual art (figure drawing, perspective, color theory layout, etc.) and comic writing instruction to build then refine their skills. Students complete a start-to-finish comic or create one to several zine-style books in the class. In addition, young comic creators are taught how to publish and protect their work.
