"Shibori is a Japanese term for several methods of dying fabric by folding, stitching, twisting or securing it before dying to produce patterns. Come learn a simple easy way to produce a painted scarf using a PVC pipe! The emphasis is on originality, so instead of vat dying, hand paint the silk dyes directly on to the wrapped silk by using pole-wrapping techniques. Resource material list will be given out on types of dyes and where you can purchase them. You will also learn to steam set professional dyes. When the class is over you will have your own custom scarf plus several sample pieces. Material fee of $15 payable to instructor for dyes, silk, 10"" x 60"" scarf, and string. Extra scarves will be available for a additional fee if you choose to make more than one. Bring to class: One 2 foot PVC pipe with a diameter of at least 1 - 1/4 inches (you can purchase this at Home Depot) protective gloves, and 2 or 3 one inch sponge brushes. Wear old clothes or bring an apron.
