About the Artist:
I was born in Brooklyn and have been an artist since I was a child, and a teacher for most of my career. I graduated from Pratt Institute, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and eventually earned my Masters in Studio Art from Adelphi University. After several years working as a successful textile designer, the teaching profession beckoned, and I began my career as an Art teacher in the NYC school system; continuing some years later at The American School of Barcelona while living in Spain for seven years, and after returning to the US, on Long Island. I retired from the Westbury School District after over thirty years of teaching while still pursuing my own artmaking.

Although I have not exhibited much over the years my work has been shown at Adelphi University, at various venues through The Town of Oyster Bay Rotational Art Exhibits, at The Gallery in Westbury (no longer in existence), and most recently at the 64th Annual Members’ Show, and The Big Picture exhibition at the Jeanie Tengelson Gallery at The Art League.

I have worked in various media, including watercolor and colored pencil, but the majority of my work is in acrylic on canvas which I enjoy because it dries quickly and gives me the opportunity to build rich layers of color and texture. Both realistic representation and abstraction hold equal appeal for me, but in my abstractions I feel freer to express my love of color, and a heightened sense of the drama and mystery of nature.

The painting that I’m offering here, titled “Golden Afternoon”, is a giclée print of an acrylic on canvas, framed and ready to hang. The print itself is about 16” x 16”, and 20 & ½” x 20 &1/2” with the frame. I worked from memory and imagination, and very much enjoyed creating it. I hope you enjoy it also!
